Disney celebrated The Little Mermaid is live-action remake this week by unveiling brand new posters and teasers featuring all your favourite characters as well as unveiling its soundtrack (which will be released later).
Fans are now experiencing Halle’s rendition of the classic track, “Part of Your World,” which had previously been teased through trailers and sneak peeks. Now available through Apple Music, Amazon Music, Spotify, and YouTube Music as well as an interactive visualizer clip on YouTube, fans can enjoy listening in full!
Studio has also unveiled brand new posters featuring Ariel, Ursula and Prince Eric (Javier Bardem as King Triton; Daveed Diggs as Sebastian the Crab) along with Jacob Tremblay playing Flounder and Awkwafina playing Scuttle.
The Little Mermaid is the timeless tale of Ariel, an endearing and lively young mermaid with an insatiable appetite for adventure. Ariel is one of King Triton’s daughters and most daring, looking outwards into the ocean world and intrigued by Prince Eric as she explores it further. Since mermaids cannot interact with humans directly, Ariel must follow her heart – which leads her to make an ill-advised deal with Ursula who offers Ariel an opportunity on Terrestret which ultimately puts her life – as well as that of her father – at risk.
Rob Marshall directed and David Magee wrote the screenplay for The Little Mermaid, with music by Alan Menken and lyrics by Howard Ashman as well as new compositions by Lin-Manuel Miranda. Marc Platt produced alongside Miranda, John DeLuca and Rob Marshall with Jeffrey Silver serving as executive producer.
The Little Mermaid will premiere in cinemas worldwide on May 26th 2023.
The newly released teaser trailer of this movie offers us an inside glimpse of how the cast tackles these iconic roles live on screen with particular focus on Bailey, McCarthy and Hauer-King’s interactions.
Ursula quickly tells Ariel that to survive in her world she must become human herself and Ursula responds, “Life’s full of tough choices; isn’t it?” Ariel voices her reservations but Ursula dismisses them with, “Yes it is!”
Ariel and Eric ride along side each other on horseback as a crowd dances around them in the town square.
The teaser wraps up with glimpses of King Triton using his trident to strike at Ursula while Ariel floats behind her; Eric struggles to return to his vessel as an approaching storm closes in around them; Ariel appears suspended somewhere nearby and calls out “Look Out!” as they face stormy conditions. Ariel reminds Eric not to come – possibly on some floating piece of debris!
ET spoke with Bailey who noted McCarthy’s warm tone added depth to her sinister grin in the The Little Mermaid movie. “[She has a] very maternal trickiness when it comes to manipulating Ariel in the film, so I found myself immersing in her world and succumbing to her spell,” Bailey noted. It wasn’t so much mean-spirited as [Ariel] looking for a maternal figure.
On May 26th, The Little Mermaid will make her theatre debut.
