FLORIDA’S FORT LAUDERDALE – After the Federal Aviation Administration Wednesday grounded aircraft at the airports of Miami and Fort Lauderdale because of bad weather, delays were being recorded.
According to reports, the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport saw delays of up to 75 minutes by late Wednesday afternoon.
Near the FLL arrivals area, significant flooding was also recorded.
Just before 5:15 p.m. on Wednesday, the airport tweeted “(D)ue to the heavy rain, the main roadways entering and exiting #FLL are flooded and impassable.” Please don’t try to enter or exit the airport right now.
The typical delay durations at Miami International Airport were not specified by FAA statistics, although the ground stop was expected to remain until at least 5:45 p.m.
Since then, flights have started leaving and arriving at MIA.
As a result of flooding at the entry and exit lanes, officials advised tourists not to attempt to enter or exit the airport.
Additionally, it was advised for travellers to check their carriers for updated flight information. The ground shuttle service at the airport was also momentarily stopped.
According to the National Weather Service, the water level was almost as high as the tops of automobile tires. At least 10 inches of unofficial rainfall had already fallen.
There were two brief instances of aircraft delays brought on by lightning at Miami International Airport, according to authorities, but no flights were cancelled.
