Labor Day 2027 is on Monday, September 6, 2027, the first Monday of September. It is a federal holiday in the US, and Canada celebrates Labour Day on the same day.
History of Labor Day
Labor Day grew out of the 19th-century labor movement, when many Americans worked 12-hour days, seven days a week. The first Labor Day parade was held in New York City on September 5, 1882. Congress made it a federal holiday in 1894, under President Grover Cleveland.
Most other countries celebrate workers on May 1 (International Workers' Day). The US and Canada chose September instead.
What's open and closed?

The end of summer
Labor Day weekend is the traditional end of summer: the last pool weekend, the start of the school year in many districts, and the kickoff of college football. The old "no white after Labor Day" fashion rule is widely ignored today.
